Superintendent interview

                 I conducted an interview with my Superintendent Dr. Perez. When asked about leadership Dr. Perez continuously stressed the importance of ethics and having a vision for the campus. She also is an advocate for ensuring that every student in our systems receives a first class quality education. When I asked Dr Perez what leading with ethics looks like, she replied that means doing the right thing with regards to students at all cost. This means that no matter what, our top priority should be the well being and educational integrity of our students over any sort of personal or career ambitions.  When I asked Dr. Perez how she maintains a positive working relationship with the board she emphasized to me that at the root it involves being honest, open and continuously sharing information with these individuals regardless of the perceived outcome. When I discussed management in general with Dr. Perez she expressed the importance of surrounding yourself with qualified people, remaining informed, and being a lifelong learner. After hearing her speak on this process it seems as though as a superintendent you are in a constant race against information. It’s a full time job staying up to date on changes and new procedures that the school must have in order to push forward. Dr. Perez believes that wide ranging strategic planning is accomplished when staff members come together in order to utilize board goals.  What I learned from this interview is the challenges that a superintendent faces and the importance of team building, information sharing, and most importantly, being an ethical leader.

• Write a description of what you have learned about action research and how you might be able to use it. This description should be at least 200 words. I am excited about the process of action research in this course. I have always been intrigued about the inner workings of a school and always been comfortable taking leadership roles so I feel like the oppurtunity to eventually become a superintendent would be a wonderful experience. I realize that due to my age and limited experience that I will need all of the knowledge and insight possible from those who have been there and done that. Part of gathering this information is through action research. I feel like action research is not only gathering information but using it in a manner where you are comfortable processing that information and can use it in real life application. I belief that is what everyone truly wants out of this course; to be able to preform the roles and duties assigned as superintendent with the smallest learning curve possible with as little mistakes as possible. People who get themselves in the situation we are in are generally very prepared time oriented individuals who thrive on routine. I anticipate that this action research will help me learn and prepare me for the challenges that await us in the superintendent roles.

• Next write an analysis of how educational leaders might use blogs – 25 words or more are recommended. I could see educational leaders using blogs for a multitude of purposes. Really the possibilities are endless. Blogs could be dedicated to effective practices, new laws and legislation, new effective curriculum and practices, general information sharing with community stakeholders and members of the District,and also pertinant real time information as it relates to the district. Im certain there are many more areas that blogs can be utilized in and Im excited to read about them in your post.
